OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Lane Kiffin’s new team at LSU couldn’t deny Trinidad Chambliss — the quarterback Kiffin helped transform into a star after recruiting him from a Division II program to Mississippi last year. Chambliss passed for 363 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a tiebreaking score in the fourth quarter, and No. 8 Ole Miss delighted a crowd that was already revved up about Kiffin’s return with a 32-24 victory over the seventh-ranked Tigers on Saturday night. LSU stormed back from a 24-7 halftime deficit to tie the game before Chambliss engineered a 75-yard touchdown drive.

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Lane Kiffin was greeted by boos as he led No. 7 LSU onto the field at Ole Miss. Kiffin was Ole Miss' coach for six years before leaving abruptly at the end of last season as the Rebels prepared for the College Football Playoff. Security was tight in and around Vaught-Hemingway Stadium as the Tigers entered to face their eighth-ranked rivals. But there were no major incidents and much of the heckling of Kiffin was humorous and good-natured. Ole Miss fan Jessica Perkins says her school is known for its “hospitality” and “is always going to win the party.” The Rebels also won the game, 32-24, dropping Kiffin to his first loss in three games at LSU.

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Trinidad Chambliss was emotional after leading No. 8 Mississippi to a 32-24 win over No. 7 LSU and his former coach, Lane Kiffin. Chambliss says “it meant more than other games.” That was evident when he shouted a profanity during his postgame ESPN interview. Chambliss apologized, saying his emotions got away from him. He finished 33 of 48 for 363 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, and he ran for a tiebreaking, 14-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Kiffin coached Chambliss at Ole Miss last season before leaving to take the LSU job ahead of the College Football Playoff.

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi running back Kewan Lacy and LSU tight end Trey’Dez Green left Saturday night’s game between the No. 7 Tigers and No. 8 Rebels with injuries. Lacy was having his left shoulder examined before he left the sideline during the third quarter. Early in the fourth quarter, Green was helped off the field after trainers examined his right knee. He was hurt after a first-down catch across the middle that ended with the tight end taking a big hit from multiple tacklers. Lacy had nine carries for 43 yards and a touchdown, bringing his season totals to 191 yards and four TDs.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Kenny Minchey threw two touchdown passes and CJ Baxter added two scoring runs as Kentucky used a huge third quarter to stun No. 9 Texas A&M 31-21. Led by rookie coach Will Stein in his first road game, Kentucky beat a ranked opponent for the first time since downing No. 6 Mississippi 20-17 on Sept. 28, 2024. Stein had vowed to do better after Kentucky led then-No. 12 Alabama 17-13 at halftime last week before being outscored 32-0 in the second half of a 45-17 loss.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M coach Mike Elko was blunt in his assessment of the Aggies after their 31-21 loss to Kentucky. Elko says there are “no positives” to take from Saturday's game. The ninth-ranked Aggies gave up 21 straight points after halftime to turn a tie game into a 28-7 deficit that proved too big to overcome as they dropped their Southeastern Conference opener. The announced crowd at Kyle Field was 105,186. But as the last few minutes of the fourth quarter ticked away, large swaths of the upper deck were empty as many fans left early rather than watch the Wildcats celebrate on their field.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Chauncey Bowens ran for three touchdowns and No. 2 Georgia held Arkansas to just 17 yards on the ground in a 45-17 win Saturday. Georgia (3-0, 1-0 SEC) led 21-3 at halftime and never truly needed to pass the football. Quarterback Gunner Stockton finished the game 10-of-13 passing for 147 yards with a touchdown. He added a team-high 97 yards on the ground, including a 62-yard run on third down that set up Georgia’s third touchdown, Bowens’ second. Arkansas passed most of the game, rarely with much success. KJ Jackson played two drives before being replaced by AJ Hill for the Razorbacks (1-2, 0-1).

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Arch Manning threw two early touchdown passes to Cam Coleman on a night he mostly struggled, and No. 1 Texas beat UTSA 30-6 in the Longhorns’ last game before starting their Southeastern Conference schedule. Texas (3-0) vaulted to No. 1 after its thrilling 24-23 victory over Ohio State last week when Manning led a 21-point rally in the fourth quarter. But little came very easy Saturday night against the Roadrunners (2-1). Manning was just 16-of-32 passing for 161 yards, took several hard hits, and left the game with about six minutes to play with the game finally under control. Texas next heads to No. 15 Tennessee to start SEC play.
