ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — The Big Ten is expanding its plan to offer enhanced replay review insight during its football broadcasts. That expanded replay review coverage takes effect this week and will include live audio between the game referee and replay official during reviews, alongside video of the game footage they’re viewing. There also will be a view inside the Big Ten replay center. The Big Ten had announced last week it would offer these enhanced replay reviews during Friday night telecasts. The plan now will cover all conference games as well as home nonconference matchups that have Big Ten officiating crews.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Arch Manning’s 2025 Heisman Trophy campaign started and ended with a rocky season-opening loss at Ohio State. Over in the Buckeyes’ huddle, Julian Sayin’s first career start launched a standout season that found him, not Manning, among the Heisman finalists last December. They face off again Saturday when No. 1 Ohio State meets the No. 4 Longhorns in Austin. The rematch could very well set the narrative for both players and teams for the rest of the season.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana linebacker Isaiah Jones was disappointed when he walked off the field Saturday. Sure, he enjoyed helping the Hoosiers extend the FBS’ longest active winning streak to 17 games and improving to 16-0 all-time at home under third-year coach Curt Cignetti with a resounding 52-16 victory over North Texas. But even before No. 5 Indiana reached the postgame locker room, Jones already knew what he expected to hear from Cignetti: that the defense failed to play up to its national championship pedigree or the standard he helped establish over the previous two years.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Rutgers men's basketball coach Steve Pikiell says he has been diagnosed with cancer after visiting doctors a few months ago when “not feeling 100%.” Pikiell says in a statement he has had surgery and has a plan with doctors for finishing treatment. Pikiell didn't reveal the type of cancer he's battling. Pikiell says “I will still be involved with the team to the best of my ability as I navigate the challenges of the season through treatment.” Pikiell turned 59 in November and is entering his 11th season as Rutgers coach.
UNDATED (AP) — Michigan won the game against Western Michigan but lost most of its support in The Associated Press college football poll. The Wolverines dropped from No. 16 to out of the rankings. It was the biggest fall from ranked to unranked after a win since at least 2008. Michigan had appeared on all 69 preseason ballots and was listed as high as No. 10 on one. The Wolverines were on just 22 ballots in the first regular-season poll.
UNDATED (AP) — No. 1 Ohio State at No. 4 Texas highlights the Week 2 schedule and is the first regular-season top-five matchup since the Buckeyes beat the Longhorns 14-7 in Columbus last year. There are plenty of reasons to watch. A bevy of future NFL players will be on the field. It’s a classic Big Ten-SEC matchup. Though no College Football Playoff spots are at stake, the outcome definitely could impact seeding come December. Both teams have been ranked in the top 10 for all six of their meetings and this will be the fourth time both are in the top five.
UNDATED (AP) — No. 1 Ohio State at No. 4 Texas has been a red-letter game on the college football calendar for months. The teams meet in Austin on Saturday in what will be a mini litmus test in the debate over Big Ten-SEC supremacy. It could also be a factor down the road in College Football Playoff seeding but cannot be considered a knockout game. The Longhorns will be trying to beat a No. 1 team for the first time since 2008. The Big Ten-SEC undercard Saturday has No. 11 Oklahoma at Michigan and Mississippi State at Minnesota.
TYSONS, Va. (AP) — The College Sports Commission cleared more than $227 million worth of name, image and likeness deals in the two-month period ending August 31, nearly doubling the value of all the deals cleared over its first year of existence. Much of the increase can be attributed to a streamlined process with the commission’s NIL Go platform that players and schools use to submit deals, along with more personnel to evaluate deals. The agency now has 29 full-time employees, with 12 devoted full-time to NIL Go.
