CAMBRIDGE - Henry V. Spear Sr., 80, died Saturday morning, Jan. 20, 2007, at McGuire Veterans Medical Center, Richmond, Virginia.

Born on Sept. 2, 1926, in Cambridge, Dorchester County, he was the son of the late Valentine McQuay Spear and Annie Mary Elliott Spear.

On April 14, 1944, he married the former Eva Margaret Foxwell. She died on Nov. 23, 1969.

Mr. Spear served his country in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946.

On April 14, 1978, he married the former Lula Creighton.

For most of his working life, he was employed as a mechanic for the R.J. Reynolds Co.

He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7460 and was a member of the American Legion Post 91. Mr. Spear enjoyed boating.

Surviving is his wife Lula Spear of 28 years, of Cambridge, three sons, Edward M. Spear and his wife, Kimberly of Sterling, Va., the Rev. Levin McQuay "Buddy" Spear and his wife, Linda of Denton and Mike P. Spear and his wife, Sharon, of Spring Grove, Va., two step-daughters, Janice B. Evans and her husband, Stephen of Cambridge and Yvonne Dee Shamosh and her husband, Steven of Ocean Pines, two step-sons, Wayne Lloyd James of Ocean City and Charles Mace James of Hoopers Island; nine grandchildren, Adam Spear, Michelle Price and her husband Chris, Benjamin Spear, Leanna Spear, Natalie Sokalski and her husband Steve, Denise Robbins and her husband Randy, Justin Spear, Michael Spear and his wife Dawn, Joann Sullivan and her husband Danny; five step-grandchildren, Katie Tolley and her husband Morgan, Bradley Evans, Ian Shamosh, Austin Shamosh, Bryan James and Matthew James; 12 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Patricia Spear of Springfield, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death besides his parents was a son Henry V. Spear, Jr.; one great-grandson, Rex Robbins; and nine siblings, Howard Spear, William McKinley Spear, Edgar Spear, Edward Samuel Spear, Thomas Albert Spear, Elizabeth Willey, Ottlie Harrison, Mabel Smith and Rose Gray.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be his son, the Rev. Buddy Spear and his nephew, the Rev. John Willey. Burial will follow in Dorchester Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Michael Spear, Adam Spear, Justin Spear, Benjamin Spear, Bradley Evans, Morgan Tolley, Ian Shamosh and Austin Shamosh.
