CAMBRIDGE - Helen Josephine Wilkins Duerling died on Feb. 20, 2015 at Signature HealthCARE at Mallard Bay in Cambridge after a two- month illness. She was born in Baltimore Mar. 29, 1924, the daughter of the late Harry Wilkins and Mary Lillian Sevick Wilkins. In 1940, she married the love of her life, M. Linus Duerling. They were married almost 65 years before Linus died on Feb. 20, 2005, 10 years to the day before Helen. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Nancy Suman Duerling. Helen and Linus spent most of their married life in Parkville before moving in with Craig and Nan in Crownsville in 1999. The family moved to Cambridge in 2008. Helen loved arts and crafts, reading, and gardening. She especially enjoyed watching birds as they would come to the feeder. Helen and Linus both enjoyed being around the water, on their boat and on cruises. Before retiring, Helen worked part-time for many years as a sales clerk at Hutzler's Department Store in Towson. Helen donated her body to the Maryland Anatomy Board, so there will be no viewing or funeral. A memorial service will be held at her church, Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge, on Saturday, February 28 at 2:00 PM with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Zion United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
