CAMBRIDGE - Helen Brisco Dixon, 87, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.
Born Oct. 19, 1919, in Meekins Neck, she was the second of 12 children born to the late James and Effie Meekins Brisco. "Sister" as she was known by everyone, was educated in Meekins Neck School.
In 1941, she married the late John Henry Dixon. From this union nine children were born.
Mrs. Dixon worked for Andrew Cannery until she retired. She was a member of Pentecostal Temple Church, Aireys. She served as an Usher, past president of the Missionary Board and was one of the cooks in the church.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Wilson (Shelton) of Plainfield, N.J., Eunice Felder (Isaac Sr.) of Baltimore and Corrine Molock of Cambridge; six sons, Vincent Dixon (Mae), James Dixon, John Dixon (Sharon) and Lee Dixon, all of Cambridge, Kermit Dixon and Kent Dixon (Futina), all of Clinton; and a close friend that was like a daughter to her, Normalee Cornish-Payton of Cambridge. She also raised David Holland and Ronald Mitchell both of Cambridge; 39 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margie Wilkerson (Hayward), Louise Jones (Wardell) and Lillian Harris all of Baltimore; two brothers, Isaiah Brisco (Emma) and Frances Brisco (Clara), all of Cambridge; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Brisco and Ada Brisco; a brother in-law, Robert Johnson all of Cambridge and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mae Johnson; brothers, Elder James Brisco, William, Luther, Paul and Allen Brisco and one granddaughter, Tina Dixon.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, at Refuge Temple Church of God. Burial will follow in the J.R. Brisco Memorial Park, Aireys.
There will be a viewing Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Henry Funeral Home, PA in Cambridge.
