Harry A. Smith, 88
HURLOCK - Harry A. Smith, 88, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge.
He was born in Baltimore on Jan.y 5, 1920 and was a son of the late Edward E. and Annie Hurline Smith.
Mr. Smith graduated from Baltimore City College High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On Aug. 20, 1949 he married the former Thelma Cresic who passed away on Sept. 8, 1999. Mr. Smith worked for Sparrows Point Shipyard and retired after 42 years.
He enjoyed gardening. Mr. Smith was a member of the Hurlock American Legion, Post 243.
He is survived by a son, John A. Smith and wife, Mary of Hurlock; two grandchildren, Megan Friedman of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Sean Smith of Hurlock; five great-grandchildren, Dakota Smith, Katie Friedman, Delaney Smith, Joshua Friedman and CJ Smith and a brother, James A. Smith of Lusby.
Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin, Vernon and William Smith and a sister, Edna Brown.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Douglas S. Albert officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery near Hurlock. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
