CAMBRIDGE — Dorchester and Talbot County residents can support the store that helps build homes by donating to Habitat for Humanity Choptank’s ReStore’s Summer Drive for Donations. With free and convenient pick-up service, community members, congregations and business owners can easily donate new and gently used household items, appliances, building materials, furniture, lighting fixtures and cabinets. Donated items will then be available for purchase at a fraction of the retail price at the Habitat Choptank ReStore in Easton, which is open to the general public. Revenue generated from sales at the ReStore is used to help build or rehabilitate homes in partnership with income-qualifying homebuyers. “Every item donated to our ReStore helps to improve the lives of families in need of better shelter,” said Chris Smith, store manager. This year, proceeds from the Habitat Choptank ReStore are helping to support our affordable home purchasing program in Easton, Cambridge and Hurlock. Habitat homebuyers help build their homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. “Through this partnership, our homebuyers achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build a better life for themselves and their families,” Mr. Smith adds. The Habitat Choptank ReStore relies heavily on the generosity of donors, and donations made through the Summer Drive for Donations event may be tax deductible.
