Habitat Choptank is currently recruiting a Volunteer Maryland Coordinator. This is a full-time 11-month AmeriCorps service opportunity. AmeriCorps members, like alumni Garrett Fehner and Erin McDermott, help to further the Habitat mission in their local community by engaging new volunteers.
TRAPPE – Habitat for Humanity Choptank has been accepted as a Volunteer Maryland host site and is recruiting a coordinator for 2016-17. The Volunteer Maryland Coordinator (VMC) will focus on engaging additional volunteers in Habitat Choptank’s self-help homeownership program. This is an 11 month, full-time (40 hours/week) position serving in Dorchester and Talbot counties as a member of the Volunteer Maryland AmeriCorps program. The VMC service year will begin on Sept. 14, 2016. VMCs are expected to complete 1,700 hours of service during the term. While AmeriCorps applicants must be at least 17 years and have graduated from high school, past VMCs have ranged in age from 17 to 79. Men and women of all ages and backgrounds, including retirees, veterans and workers in transition, are encouraged to apply. For an application packet, contact Volunteer Maryland by calling 410-767-6203, e-mail volunteer.maryland@maryland.gov, or go online to www.Volunteer.Maryland.gov . Since 1992, Habitat Choptank has empowered 69 working households from Talbot and Dorchester counties to build the stability, security and self-reliance that comes from buying a home with monthly mortgage that they can afford. Each homebuyer contributed 300-400 hours of “sweat equity” in the building of those houses. Currently, eight buyers are working through Habitat’s multi-step program toward the goal of becoming successful homeowners with new applicants welcomed. Last year, over 500 volunteers invested their time and talent into the mission by working in construction and at the ReStore, serving on committees and the Board of Directors, helping in the office, and tackling special projects.
