CAMBRIDGE — The Grand National Waterfowl Association (GNWA) presented a $10,000 donation to the Grand National Educational Trust (GNWET) to provide scholarships to qualified Dorchester County undergraduate students.

“The 14 students currently receiving four year scholarships and the Trustees of Educational Trust want to express our sincere thanks to the Grand National Waterfowl Association for their generous donation to the scholarship fund,” said Don Reise, chairman of the GNWET. “The fund has provided over $270,000 to deserving Dorchester County high school graduates.”

The GNWET, since established in 2001, has awarded scholarships to assist qualified Dorchester County undergraduate students studying at accredited colleges and universities. Preference is given to those students pursuing courses of study in the biological sciences, environment education, agriculture and other compatible studies.

The GNWET encourages a better understand of habitat preservation and wildfowl management. The GNWET is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization with no salaried executives, will all its funding dedicated to tax-exempt educational programs.

The GNWA was chartered in 1983 as a private nonprofit organization dedicated to ornithological research and redevelopment of wildlife habitat on both private and public lands to help assure the future of migratory waterfowl, while encouraging the skill and enjoyment of our hunting heritage with specific concentration in Dorchester County, Maryland, located in the area known as the “Eastern Shore.”

Each year, the GNWA and its members underwrite several wildlife and waterfowl programs along with an invitational Waterfowl Hunt. This three-day affair draws a field of representatives from industry, sports, public affairs, government and entertainment.

The 37th Annual Hunt Week is scheduled for Nov. 21 – 23. The Grandtastic Jamboree, always a community favorite event for a fun evening with live entertainment and local food, will be held on Nov. 22 at Sailwinds in Cambridge. Tickets will be available at www.grandnationalwaterfowl.com.
