MARDELA SPRINGS - Geneva Smiley, 89 of Mardela Springs, died Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Glasgow and Emma Perkins. She was a graduate of the former Salisbury High School and was formerly employed as a seamstress for the former Manhattan and Gant Shirt Factory and Phillips Cleaners. She was a former member and the church pianist for Mount Pleasant A.U.M.P. Church in Mardela Springs. She later transferred her membership to Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church in Hebron. Her survivors include one son: Tracy Smiley of Salisbury; one grandson; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. Her first husband, Milton Smiley, died in 1994; her second husband, Alexander Wongus, died in 2010. Her sister, Jeanette Perkins Blue, also preceded her in death. A funeral service was held Friday, May 19, 2017, at Nelson Memorial U.M. Church, where friends may view one hour prior to service. Interment was in Zion U.M. Church Cemetery in Mardela Springs.
