FREDERICK — Dorchester Junior All Stars 2019 watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 8-1 loss to Frederick on Sunday. Frederick scored on a single by Nathan in the first inning, a single by Landon in the second inning, and a groundout by Peyton in the second inning.

Dorchester lost despite out-hitting Frederick 11 to nine. Frederick LL scored three runs in the fourth inning. Justin, Jack, and Caden all moved runners across the plate with RBIs.

Luke pitched Frederick to victory, going six and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on 11 hits and striking out six.

John Boyle took the loss for Dorchester. He lasted two innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking one.

Talan Middleton started the game for Dorchester. He went one inning, allowing four runs on one hit and striking out one.

The Eastern Shore boys saw the ball well, racking up 11 hits, including Devin Rottman, Jordan Harding, and Matt Corkran each managing two hits to lead their team.

Frederick stole nine bases during the game as three players stole more than one.

Brandon Hesson was one of the All Stars’ coaches. In a post online, he wrote, “I was proud to be a part of this Dorchester County Junior League all star team and its run to the Maryland Little League state tournament. We got a win, took two tough losses, but played well…and it was hot! Hopefully, the guys look back positively on the experience, and learned a little baseball along the way.”

Renee Connell wrote, “Well the junior boys have come to a stop at their run for States. These kids fought hard in the heat and built some great friendships and memories. I would also like to thank Billy Creighton for being a great manager and coach, as well as coaches Brandon Hesson and Jordan Coleman, and all the wonderful parents that have stuck together through this journey. We could not have done this alone.”

Valorie Thomas wrote, “Our Dorchester Junior League 13 and 14-year-old All-Stars Maryland District 6 Champions completed our run at States. Congratulations to our players and coaches!”

fall to Conococheague
On Saturday, Dorchester Junior All Stars 2019 stayed in it until the end, but Conococheague LL Junior pulled away late in an 18-8 victory. The game was tied at eight with Conococheague batting in the bottom of the fourth when Landon Meyers doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring three runs.

Dorchester collected 12 hits and Conococheague had 12 in the high-scoring affair.

Dorchester fired up the offense in the first inning, when Matt Corkran singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Conococheague pulled away for good with six runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Alex Bromwell singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Mason Wolfensberger singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run, and Wyatt Divelbiss drew a walk, scoring one run.

Dorchester scored four runs in the third inning. Daniel Hesson, Talan Middleton, John Boyle, and Vernon Price each drove in runs during the inning.

Bromwell was credited with the victory for Conococheague. He lasted one-third of an inning, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero.

Devin Rottman took the loss for Dorchester. He allowed three hits and five runs over two and a third innings, striking out five.

Jordan Brown started the game for Conococheague. He lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing 12 hits and eight runs while striking out six and walking one.
Dorchester scattered 12 hits in the game. Hesson, Price, and Brice Bradley all managed multiple hits. Hesson led with three hits in three trips to the plate.

Conococheague racked up 12 hits. Bromwell and Wolfensberger all had multiple hits.

Fall season is offered
In related news, Cambridge Little League will hold a fall baseball and softball season. “This program is designed to encourage kids of all skill levels to begin or continue their season,” a prepared statement from the league said. “It is a great way for kids to learn the game and help in transitioning between age divisions — tee ball to machine pitch and machine pitch to kid pitch.”

Machine pitch will be offered for ages 5, 6 and 7. Player pitch baseball and softball is set for ages 8 and 9. Parents may visit www.littleleague.org to determine their children’s league age.

Registration will be held Friday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Cambridge Little League Park at 1617 Race St. Cost per player is $35, which includes a hat and jersey.

Games will be held at the Cambridge Little League Park on Sunday afternoons with at least one practice during the week. The season will start after Labor Day, and will feature five to six weeks of games, weather permitting.
