Freddie K. Pruitt

ONANCOCK, Va. - Mr. Freddie K. Pruitt, 78, husband of Betty L. Pruitt and a resident of Onancock, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011. Born on Oct. 9, 1932, in Tangier, Va., he was a son of the late Homer G. and Blanche W. Pruitt. Freddie was a lifelong waterman, and Captain of the Tangier – Onancock Tour Boat, the "Captain Eulice." He was a member of the Market Street United Methodist Church and the Chesapeake Masonic Lodge #158, A.F. & A.M. Other than his wife, survivors include three children, Tony K. Pruitt and wife Sherrie, F. Klein Pruitt and wife Tammy, all of Onancock, and Leigh Ann Chandler and husband David of Salisbury, Md.; three sisters, Barbara Thomas of Crisfield, Md., Sherry Smith, and Sharon Scott and husband Newman, all of Onancock; two brothers, Wallace S. Pruitt and wife Shirley of Tangier, and Glenwood Pruitt and wife Walta of Onancock; a sister-in-law, Carol Pruitt, wife of his late brother, Lorie Q. Pruitt, of Tangier; five grandchildren, Shanna Watson and husband Bradley of Atlantic, VA, Brandon Pruitt of Onancock, Drew and Emma Chandler of Salisbury, and Kaylie Pruitt of Onancock; four great-grandchildren, Brad, Lola, William and Waylon Watson of Atlanic; and many nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, and brother, Lorie, he was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Doran; a nephew, Wesley Smith; and a niece, Rose Ellen Keeley. Funeral services were conducted from the Market Street United Methodist Church in Onancock on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at 2 p.m., with the Reverend Robert Chapman officiating. Interment followed in the Fairview Lawn Cemetery. There was a visitation at the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, from 7 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to the Riverside Shore Cancer Center, P.O. Box 17, Nassawadox, VA 23413, or to Hospice of the Eastern Shore, 165 Market Street, Suite 3, Onancock, VA 23417. Memory tributes may be shared with the family at www.williamsfuneralhomes.com.
