Concert happens on the Choptank River waterfront at new location this year

CAMBRIDGE — The public is invited to a Fourth of July concert featuring the Mid-Shore Community Band playing patriotic favorites at 7 p.m. on July 4 outdoors at the Amphitheater at Sailwinds Park (next to the Dorchester County Visitor Center).

The waterfront concert is free. Bring chairs or a blanket. Food from Two Chicks Catering and beer and wine from the Wine Bar will be available for purchase.

The Mid-Shore Community Band, an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization, carries on the tradition of community/town bands in the Middle Eastern Shore of Maryland. During the golden age of the town band (1880-1922), many communities were fortunate enough to have their own town bands. Cambridge had the Merry Concert Band and the Rescue Fire Company Band.

These bands were a major form of entertainment for the community.

After the concert, stay for a view of the fireworks which start at dusk (a little after 9pm) from a barge near Great Marsh Park, west of the amphitheater. The concert is part of the “At the Sail” series of events organized by Dorchester Tourism, the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Cambridge.
