Ashley Watkins, flutist will perform at the Dorchester Center for the Arts on Aug. 15 at 5 p.m
Back by popular demand, the community is invited to attend the concert at Dorchester Center for the Arts (DCA) of Cambridge’s own flutist Ashley Watkins on Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 for DCA members and $12 for non-members. Ashley earned her Bachelor of Music in 2008 from James Madison University, studying under Dr. Beth Chandler. In 2010 she received a Master’s of Music from the University of Akron in Ohio, under George Pope. She continues to perform as a soloist throughout this community and beyond, spreading and sharing her love and passion for music. For ticket information, call 410-228-7782. New Podcast Launched A new podcast has been launched for the Dorchester Center for the Arts based upon recorded shows of “A Love for the Arts” on WCEM-AM 1240. The shows posted to this site are highlights of the interviews that had the broadest appeal, and podcasts have been edited for time and content. While some information may address a particular point in time, the information may still be beneficial, as many ideas come from a random thought or conversation. The arts are about creativity, and perhaps something heard will plant a seed, initiate a spark of an idea that can be expanded, and inspire someone to enhance the arts locally or where they live.                    DCA extends its appreciation to MTS Broadcasting for its support. To visit the site, go to: http://love4artspodcast.com Artist reception this weekend at DCA A Second Saturday Artists’ Reception will be held on this Saturday, from 5-7:30 pm, with live music and light refreshments. The exhibit which runs through Aug. 29 features the Working Artists Forum “Creating Art on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.” Since 1979, Working Artists’ Forum has been a juried organization of working professional artists from diverse professions and geographic locations. Membership, which began with 13 charter members, has expanded to 91 members today. For more information, call 410-228-7782. Editor’s note: Spectrum is the weekly column of the Dorchester Arts Center. It is written by Mickey Love, executive director.
