Officers of the Cambridge Police Department helped Santa distribute gifts.[/caption] CAMBRIDGE — It was a holiday event that some 326 girls and boys from the Cambridge community will remember for quite some time as Santa and Ms. Claus visited the Cambridge Elks Lodge #223 on Pine Street in Cambridge. The Santa’s Workshop started when Santa arrived at the Elks Lodge on the Cambridge Recuse Fire Company’s ladder truck, escorted by the Cambridge Police Department. Santa and his helpers made sure that each of the children up to the age 12 received a Christmas Gift as they enjoyed the fun and refreshments. Organized by The City of Cambridge Neighborhood Revitalization Team and the Cambridge Police Department, this the first Santa’s Workshop event was spearheaded by Susan Webb, division manager for Building Safety and Herve’ Hamon, planner and Historic Preservation Specialist for the Cambridge Department of Public Works. The special Christmas program was made possible by donations from the Bless Our Children Fund along with the Care and Share Fund of Dorchester. Volunteers from the surrounding community, Habitat for Humanity, along with City Commissioners LaShon Foster, 3rd ward; Dave Cannon 4th ward and Police Chief Mark Lewis of the Cambridge Police Department all came out to put a smile on the kids’ faces while they helped hand out the gifts and serve refreshments for this holiday celebration.
