CAMBRIDGE – Feb. 12 is Second Saturday, with special happenings at DCA.

To kick things off, the public is invited to enjoy a free Community Day open sewing and quilting workshop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., for ages 16 and up, to complement the “Black History Past & Now” fiber arts show on exhibit through Feb. 26.

The Artists’ Reception for the show will be held in the Main Gallery from 5 to 7 p.m. Mingle with exhibiting fiber artists as they talk about their work. There is no cost to attend the reception, and all are welcome.

Following the reception, a jazzy Valentine’s concert, “Songs of Love and Happiness” with musicians Linda Harris, Felipe Paccagnella and Chuck Ferrell, takes place in the George B. Todd Performance Hall. The concert begins at 7 p.m.

Harris is a singer and songwriter who performs regularly with the Light Switch Band. She and Paccagnella have written and recorded 10 original songs. Harris performs on Delmarva in jazz clubs, festivals and events as well as clubs and festivals in New Orleans, New York, Myrtle Beach, South Florida, and abroad in Panama, Paris and Venice.

Paccagnella is an artist based in Columbia who composes, arranges, produces, mixes and sometimes masters various works for artists all over the world. He also performs professionally on piano, guitar, bass, drums and vocals. He has performed at festivals and venues large and small. Paccagnella is the composer, arranger and director for the Light Switch Band.

Ferrell, often referred to as “the quiet drummer,” has performed with jazz, Motown, rock and country artists all over the world. Hailing from Danville, Virginia, he attended Virginia Commonwealth University, where he studied private drum instruction with drummer Clarence Penn and jazz ensemble under the tutelage of jazz legend, Ellis Marsalis.

Tickets for the concert are $25 per person, available for purchase online at dorchesterarts.org. Proceeds benefit Dorchester Center for the Arts and the Harriet Tubman Museum.
