CAMBRIDGE — Members of the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Cambridge Police Department are continuing the investigation into the origin and cause of a house fire that claimed the life of an adult male. Rescue Fire Company was dispatched at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday morning for a structure fire located at 1100 Locust St., Cambridge. Fire Department personnel arrived on location to find a two-story wood-framed single family dwelling with heavy fire conditions. Approximately 50 firefighters from multiple departments from around the area were called to assist and brought the fire under control within approximately two hours, including fire extension to the two houses located adjacent to the original fire structure. During suppression activities an adult male victim was located within the structure. The body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the exact cause of death and to positively identify the victim. A second occupant of the dwelling escaped the fire by jumping to the ground from a second floor window. He was transported to and later released from Dorchester General Hospital with minor injuries. Two firefighters also received minor injuries during suppression activities. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Office of the State Fire Marshal at 410-713-3780.
