CHURCH CREEK - Everett R. Simmons Jr., 75, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008.

He was born in Cambridge on Feb. 26, 1932, and was a son of the late Everett "Tob" and Carrie Elizabeth Hurley Simmons Sr.

He attended schools at Blackwater and Church Creek and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1948.

On Sept. 23, 1950 he was married to the former Gloria Marshall.

Mr. Simmons had worked with his father in the automobile repair business and had also worked at Spicer's Lumber Co. for several years as a mechanic. He was later self-employed for over 30 years in the auto repair business in Church Creek.

He had served on the Zoning Appeals Board for 17 years. Mr. Simmons was an honorary member of the Church Creek Volunteer Fire Company.

He had been in failing health for the past two months and had been a patient at Dorchester General Hospital since Dec. 30.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria L. Simmons of Church Creek; one son, L. Reese Simmons and his wife, Carol Simmons of Willards; five grandchildren, Tracey Smith and her husband, Steve Smith, Scott Simmons and his wife, Shannon Simmons, Heather Simmons, Joseph Mennit and Jennifer Simmons; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Sandoval and her husband, Pepe Sandoval of Ocean View, Del. and numerous cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Dorchester Memorial Park with the Rev. Pardee Bramble officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
