CAMBRIDGE - Evelyn Keene Scott passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2007.

She was born Jan. 18, 1927, in Cambridge to the late Evie Waters Keene and Isaac Leonard Keene Sr.

Ms. Scott received her early education in the Dorchester County public school system. She graduated from Frederick Douglass St. Clair High School, Class of 1945. She was the class queen, competed in spelling bees and was skilled at dancing on skates. She was a popular soloist in high school assemblies and was well-known for her high-c rendition of "Ave Maria" and "O Holy Night."

Ms. Scott"s earliest job was babysitting. Upon relocating to Washington, she attended Cortez Peters School. She was employed by the General Services Administration, achieving the position of personal administrative assistant to the director of federal supply. Additionally, she worked for the General Accounting Office of investigation. After her retirement, she returned to Cambridge and worked as a secretary for the Dorchester County Board of Education and was a greeter at Wal-Mart for 10 years.

Ms. Scott joined Waugh United Methodist Church at an early age. She was a member of the first junior choir (the Youth Choral Ensemble). While in Washington, she united with Gethsemane Methodist Church and sang with the Senior Choir. Upon returning to Cambridge, she reconnected with Waugh, participating in the hot meals program and serving wherever she could.

She loved music, dancing and family gatherings that included game nights. She enjoyed cruises and had traveled to Florida, New York and Houston.

Mrs. Scott is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Ann Taylor; like a son, Santo Jones; granddaughter, Ekira Taylor; sisters, Edna Watkins, Laura Johnson, Elaine Stanley (Richard), Ramona Jones; brother, Isaac Leonard Keene Jr.; special friends, Geraldine Boardley, Sara Parker and Christine Wingate; seven nieces; six nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; a number of cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gwendolyn Askins, and a sister, Ruth Kiah.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Waugh Chapel UM Church, 425 High St., Cambridge, with the Rev. Dr. William T. Wallace Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are being handled by the Henry Funeral Home, PA in Cambridge.
