CAMBRIDGE - Ernest Hilton Jones Sr., 68 of Cambridge, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2007, at Dorchester General Hospital.

He was born Jan. 6, 1939, in Dorchester County, son of the late Aaron and Ethel Jones and was raised by the late Eva Stewart as her own. Ernest was married to the late Juanita Jones.

Mr. Jones attended the public schools in Dorchester County and served proudly in the U.S. Navy. He was employed with Connelly Containers and lastly as an apprentice with Western Publishing.

He gave his heart to the Lord later in life. Ernest loved the finer things in life and yet appreciated the simple things such as fishing, reading and of course he cherished family and friends.

Mr. Jones is survived by five children, Ernestine Jones, Portia Breath (Richard), Ernest Jones Jr., James Jones and Tashika Camper; seven stepchildren, Bernice Beasley (Eddie), Diane Travers, Clemetine Camper (Rodney), Joyce Jones, Cherylnn Johnson, Bedford Johnson III and Jonathan Jones; 11 grandchildren; 19 step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters in-law, Mary Pinder, Mabel Lake, Jerldine Dockins (Marcellus); and a brother in-law, Wardell Jones (Louise) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three children, Darlene Jones, Brenda K. Jones and Michael Jones; a stepson, Garfield Jones; an aunt, Evelyn Jones; and two uncles, Milton.
