SALISBURY – Elizabeth J. "Betty Jo" Ward, 82, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Manokin Manor Nursing Home in Princess Anne.
Born in Chestertown on June 19, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Elizabeth Reed Woodland. Her husband, John Philip Ward, died Jan. 31, 2003.
Betty Jo grew up in Marion Station and graduated from the former Marion High School. A homemaker, her first love was her children and her family, and her second love was the history and genealogy of her family. After much research, she was able to trace an ancestor, Ephraim Sterling, who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Subsequently after this finding, she became a member of the Nanticoke Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by two children, John David Ward of Eden and Ellen Ward Kauffman of Bear, Del.; three grandchildren, Robin Carmel Kondzielawa of Bear, John Michael Ward of Eden and Hannah Kathryn Ward of Eden; one great-grandson, Philip Richard Ward of Bear; one brother, Rev. James Woodland of Portsmouth, Va.; her son-in-law, Dick Kauffman; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held Oct. 13 at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. Her brother, the Rev. James Woodland, officiated. Burial followed in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, Eastern Shore Chapter, 213 W. Main St., #205, Salisbury, Maryland 21801-4871.
Arrangements were in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.
