BROOKVIEW-ELDORADO – North Dorchester is safer than ever, now that Eldorado-Brookview Volunteer Fire Company’s (EBVFC) crew has grown. “Big congratulations going out to our six new firefighters,” a statement on social media from company leadership said. “These guys had 108 hours in training to become firefighters. They are Stephen Abt, Scott Abt, Vance Monroe, Zach Blanchfield, Brandon Harding and Garrett Barnes. Thank you guys, for your time and dedication.” In a response, Jason Barnes wrote, “I’m proud to be part of a company with such committed young men.” Eldorado-Brookview VFC is located in the northeastern part of Dorchester County, and is designated Station 26. The all-volunteer department has about 60 members, who work as fire fighters, emergency medical technicians, paramedics and associates. The department operates a fleet of two engines, two brush trucks, one light-duty rescue, one tanker, one utility truck, a boat and an all-terrain vehicle. There is always room for more volunteers, in Eldorado-Brookview and elsewhere. “Fire companies are always looking for help,” EBVFC Chief Brad Murphy said. “Anyone interested in joining should contact their local department.” Other plans are in the works for greater capabilities at the company. “We will be getting a new engine – to us – that is a 2006,” Chief Murphy said. “We received state grant money and a low-interest loan to purchase that and a new Holmatro tool for rescue.” The group has strong support in the area. North Dorchester resident Amanda Robinson wrote, “Good job, and thank you all for your service.” A fundraising event will take place on Saturday, when the EBFVC will hold a chicken platter barbecue, beginning at 10 a.m. Meals will be $9, and will include baked beans, chips, a roll and a cookie. There will be free delivery with a four-platter purchase. To preorder, call 443-614-2626. The EBVFC is located at 5752 Rhodesdale-Eldorado Road, phone 410-943-4004.
