HURLOCK — An Eagle will soon spread her wings, leave the nest, and become a Falcon. On Monday, Myasia Jones, a senior at North Dorchester High School, signed a letter of intent to play volleyball, and also join the Pfeiffer University Falcons Track and Field team. Based in Misenheimer, N.C., Pfeiffer University’s Women’s Volleyball is a NCAA Division II program. Myasia said she visited the school, met the volleyball coach and also met members of the track team. She enjoyed her visit and said the campus is beautiful. She will transition from an Eagle to a Falcon when the next school year begins. “I guess I’m still a bird,” Myasia said Monday. “I’m excited and nervous at the same time.” NDHS Volleyball Coach Carol Hubbard said Myasia is a symbol of success on a new sports team. The volleyball program started three years ago at NDHS when Myasia was a sophomore. “I think it’s awesome,” Coach Hubbard said. “We went from a program that only won one game it’s first year, to playing in the regional finals this year.” Dorchester Banner/Bob Zimberoff

Myasia improved each year in the program, and developed a fantastic jump serve her senior year. In track, Myasia’s specialties are the 200 meter sprint, and the 4x200m relay. Myasia said she plans to major in psychology at Pfeiffer. She would like to open her own psychology office then work on becoming a psychiatrist.
