Dorothy V. Schaake, 73
CAMBRIDGE - Dorothy Virginia "Dot" Schaake, 73, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Silver Spring on July 1, 1934, the daughter of Thomas and Martha Wiltshire. Dot attended schools in Silver Spring.
She held various secretarial jobs before and after raising her three children. Dot was an avid quilter, loved to garden and travel. She especially loved to spend time with her family and friends.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cambridge. Dot was active in The Gleaners Sunday School group, volunteered at Flower Fair and Soup Day. She was also a circle leader and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Dot was a Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary member and volunteered at the Robin Hood Shop. She was a member of the local AARP chapter and had been chapter secretary in the past.
Dot is survived by Ron, her husband of 52 years; three children and their spouses - her son, Rick and his wife, Cathy Schaake of Hillsboro; her daughter, Susan and her husband, George Guthridge III of Churchton; her son, Dave and his wife, Becky Schaake of Easton. Dot is also survived by three grandchildren; Christina Barnhart, Amy Lorraine Guthridge and George Guthridge IV; two step-grandchildren; Cherie Mosley and Steven Mullins; three great-grandchildren; Jared, Megan and Allison Barnhart; three stepgreat-grandchildren; Emily and John Mosley, and Kairi Mullins. Dot is also survived by her sister, Peaches Santini of Brandon, Fla.; and her brother, Sonny Wiltshire of Conway, S.C.; and nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Fred Bahr and the Rev. A. Delmer Willey officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery of the Eastern Shore near Hurlock. The family will receive friends between 6 and 8 p.m. on Monday, at the funeral home.
