CAMBRIDGE — Thanksgiving is a day to be grateful for the blessings of life, and residents of Dorchester County took the opportunity to send good wishes to one another. While for most, it’s a time for family, friends, football and food, there are those who are still on duty serving others: Police officers, firefighters, emergency responders, medical personnel and even hospitality workers — it’s a big day in restaurants and hotels.

Officers at the Hurlock Police Department (HPD) remembered those on watch keeping the peace, saying, “Happy Thanksgiving from the HPD to you and your family. To our officers and all first responders that are on duty today, a special thank you and may God bless you and watch over you always.”

Many local folks reached out on social media, sending greetings to neighbors.

• Gabriella, 3rd grade, South Dorchester School — “I’m thankful for my Grandma who does so much for us and my parents.

• Ms. Bowers, assistant principal, North Dorchester High School — “I’m thankful for my position in the school with these wonderful students and staff who I feel like are my family.”

• Milo, 2nd grade, Sandy Hill Elementary School — “My friends and my family.”

And of course, it’s hardly Thanksgiving without a feast, and the star of that show is the turkey. For those who need a little advice for a successful meal, kindergarten students at Choptank Elementary School put together a few tips on how to roast the perfect bird.
