74th Annual Cambridge-Dorchester County Christmas Parade

The Cambridge-Dorchester County Christmas Parade is proud to present this year’s parade – the 74th annual, themed for the 2023 season: “Snowflakes on Parade.” This year’s parade will grace the streets of downtown Cambridge on Dec. 2, starting from Long Wharf at 5 p.m. 

The parade is 100% donor funded. If you have not yet donated, now is the time! Donating is easy, either by mail or online via PayPal.

The Cambridge-Dorchester County Christmas Parade is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Your donations are tax-deductible.

We are looking for floats of all types, sizes and creativity. You can easily enter online by visiting our web page, christmasparade.org.

Halloween Dance Party

On Oct. 28, Sons of the American Legion Unit 91 will sponsor a Halloween Dance Party at the Dorchester Post 91, 98 Sunburst Highway, in Cambridge, from 7-11 p.m., featuring Golden Touch. The cost is $13 per person, and tables of six or more can be reserved by calling 443-521-7838 or visiting the Post Lounge. There will be a cash bar and food will be available for purchase. No outside food or beverages allowed. Costumes are recommended and prizes will be awarded, plus a 50/50 raffle.

Resurfacing U.S. 50

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration began a resurfacing project on Monday on westbound U.S. 50 between MD 818 (Main Street) in Berlin and the Wicomico County line near Willards. Weather permitting, this seven-mile project should be completed by the end of December. 

Crews will work Mondays through Fridays, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Motorists can expect single-lane closures throughout the duration of the project.  

Public notice 

Members of the Dorchester County Council will join Comptroller Lierman during a visit to the Packing House on Oct. 26 at 11:45 a.m. in Cambridge.

Blackwater NWR 

There will be no fee for the Wildlife Drive on Nov. 11, Veterans’ Day.

Church Creek Haunted House

The Haunted House organized by the Church Creek Volunteer Fire Company Station 46 is open for the season. It is open each Friday and Saturday through October, 7-10 p.m.

Admission: $10 for 10 years old and up, $7 for 9-4 years old. Free for 3 and under.

Annual benefit auction

The annual benefit auction, sponsored by Secretary Methodist Church, will be held at the pavilion of Suicide Bridge Restaurant on Nov. 18. Preview items at 3 p.m., auction begins at 4 p.m. Proceeds benefit Secretary Volunteer Fire Co. and Meals til Monday Food Program. Baked goods and special menu available for purchase. Auctioneer: Trice Auctions.

Harvest Fair

To benefit Countryside Christian School, Nov. 4, 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Linkwood-Salem VFC, 3905 Ocean Gateway.

Fresh prepared food: Scrapple and egg sandwiches, ham biscuits, hot dogs, fried oyster sandwiches, Maryland crab soup, bean soup, chili and sodas

Wednesday Morning Artists

Wednesday Morning Artists will meet Oct. 18, at 9:30 a.m. All are invited to join our weekly meeting of Wednesday Morning Artists at 900 Peachblossom Place, Cambridge.

Town of Preston

Preston leaders have the following events on the calendar:

Oct. 21 Hallowdaze 12-4 p.m.; The KG Band 12-3 p.m.; Costume contest 3 p.m.; Craft-art table, bounce house, vendors, trick or treating.

Dec. 2 Christmasdaze 4-6 p.m.; Reagan Kent Vocalist 4-6 p.m.; Crafts, hot cocoa, cookies, popcorn machine, Christmas lights, food trucks, and more.

4-H events

  • There will be an Indoor Craft & Yard Sale to benefit the Caroline County 4-H Program on Oct. 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Caroline County 4-H Park, 8230 Detour Road, Denton.

All vendors are welcome. Crafters, direct sales consultants, household items, furniture, jewelry, antiques, horse tack, tools, pet items and more. Direct sales consultants will be kept to one per venue. $15 per table. Payment must be received to reserve tables.

Set up is on Oct. 27 from 6-8 p.m. or Oct. 28 from 6-7 a.m. 

Proceeds from sale of table spots will benefit the Caroline County 4-H Programs including scholarships, club needs, leadership and service-learning activities. Call Joanne Wooters at 410-479-0565 for information.

  • The Trailblazers 4-H Club will hold an Equine Tack Swap and Sale on Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Caroline County 4-H Park, 8230 Detour Road, Denton. Spaces are $25 each and include one table and two chairs. Payment must be received to reserve tables. Set up is Oct. 29 from 7-8 a.m.

Choptank Writers

Woman’s Club

The Cambridge Woman’s Club is at the historic Sycamore cottage on 417 High St. in Cambridge. CWC hosts lectures during the year by local artists, community activists, and educators.
