Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford visited the Board of Education Tuesday afternoon, along with Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Secretary Kelly Schulz and Maryland State Department of Education Assistant State Superintendent Dr. Lynne Gilli to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Dorchester County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Diana Mitchell. Youth apprenticeship program students work a minimum of 450 hours with a certified employer while receiving related educational training through their high school. Participating students typically work during the summer after their junior year and during their senior year during which time they are mentored and receive training in employability skills, interpersonal/ social skills, and general knowledge of the world of work. DCTC Principal Kermit Hines will be overseeing the program for DCPS. More information will be forthcoming as the program takes shape in the county but it is anticipated it will be a great opportunity for the county’s young people!
