Diaz for Board of Education

The Dorchester Banner encourages readers to share their views on topics of public interest.

I am an instructional assistant at South Dorchester School K-8 and I am certain the best choice for the Dorchester County Board of Education District 1 is Mike Diaz. In my experience as an educator, I have seen the decline of our education system with the effects of increased poverty and trauma on our students and teachers.

Mike Diaz has a background in juvenile behavioral health, the common sense of a small business owner, and is a parent of a current student. He is an Army veteran and facility administrator.

He has helped thousands of children, families and communities facing issues related to juvenile behavioral health, substance abuse and gang violence issues. He understands the problems in Dorchester schools and can make the tough decisions that will improve safety, accountability and transparency in our district.

He champions education and community and wants to treat teachers like the professionals they are so they stay here. He has witnessed the need to stop the drain of good teachers who leave the profession after just a few years.
A Little League coach, he has experience building community and wants to bring that value to the Board of Education. We are all feeling overwhelmed by the pandemic, but a strong school board that strengthens education, and a sense of community and accountability will make a difference in how well we recover.

Make sure you vote when your ballot comes in the mail so Mike Diaz can bring those values to the school board. Remember to return your ballot by June 2.
