Diane F. Smith
CAMBRIDGE - Diane Faye Slacum Smith, 59, died early Wednesday morning, March 28, 2007, at Dorchester General Hospital.
Born on Feb. 5, 1948, in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Woolford F. Slacum and Louise S. Eskridge and stepdaughter of the late Robert Eskridge Sr.
Diane attended schools in Dorchester County.
On Dec. 21, 1969, she married William L. "Bill" Smith.
For more than 20 years, she worked for Rob Roy Shirt Factory and more recently at Dorchester General Hospital until her health began to fail.
Mrs. Smith's hobbies were playing bingo, gardening and riding with her husband on their Harley.
In addition to her husband of 38 years, she is survived by a son William L. "Billy" Smith Jr. also of Cambridge; stepson Richard G. Smith and his wife, Laurie; two grandchildren, Alexis Smith and Olivia Smith, all of Delmar, Del.; two sisters, Darlene Bramble and her husband, Edward, Elizabeth A. Slacum; a stepbrother, Robert Eskridge Jr., all of Cambridge; nmerous nieces and nephews; one great-niece; three great-nephews; numerous aunts and uncles; two goddaughters, Donna Melby and Robin Slacum; a special sister-in-law, Brenda Duff, d two brothers-in-law, Hobie Duff and Eldridge Smith Jr.; and special friends, Kenny and Dottie Mason, Sonny and Jeannie Ewell and George Elliott, all of Cambridge.
In addition to her parents and stepfather, she was preceded in death by her special friend, Joyce A. Elliott, who died on Jan. 15, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Abraham Lankford, pastor of Chesapeake Bay Baptist Church and the Rev. Randall Blackmon, pastor of Faith Baptist Fellowship. Burial will follow at The Maryland Veterans' Cemetery, Hurlock.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Bramble, Eddie Bramble, Bill Marshall, James Hurley, Ricky Smith, Hobie Duff, Sonny Ewell, Donnie Wilcox and Charles Moore.
In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Diane's memory to Chesapeake Bay Baptist Church, 200 Smith St., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Faith Baptist Fellowship, 108 Teal Lane, Cambridge, MD 21613.
