DCTC hosts middle schoolers for ACES

Posted

CAMBRIDGE – The Dorchester Career and Technology Center is sponsoring a Junior ACES Program for middle school students to experience potential career opportunities. This is the first year DCTC is offering this opportunity.

Junior ACES is open only to those students chosen by the school administration. The program consists of several visits to Dorchester Career and Technology Center. The purpose of these visits includes learning about the programs offered, gathering information about potential careers in each field, preparing an individual project, and being better prepared to discuss career issues and opportunities with students and staff at the appropriate time.

Junior ACES will prove to be a rewarding experience – both for the students, parents, and teachers. DCTC staff looks forward to getting to know you and having the opportunity to share our knowledge and experiences with you.

The first meeting of the Junior Aces Program took place Oct. 24, 2017, from 4 - 6 p.m. Eighth grade students from Mace’s Lane Middle School, South Dorchester PreK-8, and North Dorchester Middle School participated in the program. The students had a light dinner and worked in carpentry and collision repair.

The projects selected were for the students to build a bird house, and sand, clean, and paint a fender. All students worked hard and had fun. The events will be held monthly.
