DCA welcomes vocalist and guitarist Evan Button for a Gallery Stage performance tonight at 7 p.m. Evan’s first full length CD, “Walking On Earth,” was released in January 2015. Tickets are $10 for DCA members; $12 for non-members and seating it limited. To charge tickets by phone, using Visa, Master Card or Discover, call 410-228-7782.[/caption] The Dorchester Center for the Arts (DCA) is presenting an inaugural Plein Air Golf Tournament and Cocktail Party on May 3, at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina in Cambridge. The event is sponsored by PNC Wealth Management. “Golf and art aren’t usually combined, but we said, ‘why not?’” stated Mickey Love, DCA executive director. “Both activities take place in the beauty of the outdoors, and this provides an opportunity for two different audiences to share their passions in a unique way. After this, perhaps an artist will take up golf; or a golfer will pick up a paint brush.” Proceeds from Plein Air Golf benefit DCA operations, which include youth and adult art education classes. The event will be a 9-hole only Scramble with 4-person teams. Plein Air artists will be stationed at tees and the driving range. The cocktail party, which will include a wet paint sale, will be held at the driving range, and include golf grill favorites plus a beer and wine cash bar. Registration begins at 1 p.m. with the shotgun start at 2 p.m. Golf teams of 4 will play best ball to obtain their scores. Prizes will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place teams; all other teams will be placed in a drawing for a prize. Painters must be in position by the shotgun start time at 2 p.m. and have the back of their canvases stamped. An artist (novice to professional) may paint any subject or scene at the golf course. Designated painting areas include any tee on the 9-hole event course, or the Hyatt Driving Range. The painting must be completed in that outdoor venue the day of the event and the painting period is 1—4:30 p.m. Each completed, wet paint project will be placed in a silent auction to be held during the cocktail party. A first place award will be $100; all other entries will be placed in a drawing for a $25 prize. Judging will be done by the event committee. Proceeds from the sale of paintings will be divided 50/50 between DCA and the artist. Golf entry fees are $70 per person; $280 per team and include green fees, cart and cocktail party. For painters, the fee is $25 per person, which includes the entry and cocktail party. Tickets are also available for the cocktail party only for $25, so that spouses and friends can join golfers after the event. The cocktail party will begin at 4:30 p.m. DCA is also seeking hole sponsors for the tournament. The fee is $100 and each sponsor will have signage at the event. To become a hole sponsor, call 410-228-7782. Forms are available at DCA, which is located at 321 High St., Cambridge, or online at dorchesterarts.org. For more information, call 410-228-7782.
