SALISBURY - Daniel James Messick, Sr., died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Dames Quarter, he was the son of the late Melvin and Bessie Bonnet Messick. He spent his entire life working as a commercial fisherman/waterman. He also retired from Food Lion, where he worked as an Assistant Manager for 15 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Allen LaBrush; a grandson, Benjamin Hall; four brothers, Robert, Richard, Jiggs and Melvin, Jr.; and a sister, Ruby He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Bonnie Messick, of Salisbury; three daughters, Angela Ness, Loretta Hall and Tammy Vance; two sons, Daniel James Messick, Jr. and Wesley James Messick; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Grace and Barbara; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
