FREDERICK — On Aug. 1, Stacey DeWitt competed in the USPA 4th Annual Maryland Drug Tested State Powerlifting Championship, at the Frederick Fairgrounds. When she is not on the lifting platform, Ms. DeWitt is a corporal with the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office.

This powerlifting competition was the first meet she had competed in since beginning her powerlifting journey in May of last year, and she definitely wasn’t expecting the results she received, a statement from the Sheriff’s Office said. Every lift Ms. DeWitt completed at the meet was a “good lift” and she ended the day going 9 for 9 along with setting a USPA Maryland State Drug Tested Record in the Master’s 82.5kg weight class for Squat (95kg/209.40lb), Bench Press (87.50kg/192.90lb), and Deadlift (137.50kg/303.10lb). She also ended up with a personal record of 192.90 pounds on bench press and 1st Place in the Master’s 82.5kg weight class.

She said she can’t take all the credit for the exceptional work she did at the meet and owes a lot to her wife and biggest supporter, Natalie DeWitt, who got her into weight lifting and kept encouraging and pushing her to her limits inside the gym.

So, what is next? She says she has already signed up for her second meet which will be held in Kent Island on Oct. 31 and is determined to set new records. Ms. DeWitt also mentioned during this training period she is hoping to have her idol, Stacy “Bama” Burr be her coach and has already reached out to her and is in the process of setting up remote coaching.

Ms. DeWitt said her training could not have been possible without the help from her daughters, her friend Jonathon, her mother Susan, and a fellow local powerlifter Brandon Stouffer, the son of fellow Caroline County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Stouffer. “Without the help from these people, none of this would have been possible,” the statement said.
