Community sessions focus on volunteers

CAMBRIDGE — The Dorchester Skipjack Committee will host three one-hour community education sessions in Talbot and Dorchester counties. These community sessions are a great opportunity to learn about the history of skipjacks, oystering and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay and its estuaries.


Dates, times, and locations are listed below.
Refreshment will be served at all meetings.


• March 14 at 6:30 p.m.— Eastern Shore Land Conservancy, 114 South Washington St. in Easton
• March 16 at10 a.m. — Dorchester County Historical Society, 1003 Greenway Drive in Cambridg
• March 21 at 6 p.m. — Cambridge Center Chesapeake College, 416-418 Race St. in Cambridge


The Dorchester Skipjack Committee is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization which preserves, promotes and operates the Nathan of Dorchester. he Nathan is the last authentic skipjack built on the Bay. For 25 years, she has provided a unique on the water experience for over a thousand passengers per year. isitors from all over the world have enjoyed sailing and learning about the maritime history of the community as well the ecology of the bay and the impact of the oyster industry.


As a volunteer organization, the Nathan offers opportunities to learn to sail this historic boat; assist with wooden boat repair; help schedule and greet passengers; educate passengers on board; and work on administrative/computer projects. Come to a session, expand your knowledge and see if this might be for you. The Nathan of Dorchester: sailing strong for 25 years!
