Special to The Dorchester Banner/Chamber of Commerce Chef Patrick Fanning enjoys locally roasted coffee at Black Water, downtown Cambridge’s newest business.[/caption] CAMBRIDGE — Downtown Cambridge’s newest business is Black Water, a coffee house located where Elliott’s Baking Company used to be. Black Water is the newest member of the Cambridge Eateries family, which also includes High Spot and Stoked. Chef Patrick Fanning announced the new name and new concept for the business at 429 Race St. as of March 1. A ribbon cutting with the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce is planned for noon on March 16. “We chose Black Water as the name, because really, that’s what coffee is in its purest form,” said Fanning. “The local coffees and hand-pulled espressos we’re serving here are for coffee aficionados and anybody who enjoys a really good cup of coffee. We thought the name would also be a nice tribute to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.” Black Water serves two locally roasted coffees — Night Kitchen, roasted in Cambridge, and Rise Up, roasted on the Eastern Shore. Baked goods include made-to-order donuts in 20 flavors, served hot and fresh; homemade pop-tarts; and specialty custom cakes. Light fare for breakfast and lunch includes Black Water’s own take on hot pockets, quiches, breakfast sandwiches, soups, and sandwiches. The coffee house will also offer all the smoothies from the former Squoze. In addition, Black Water will serve up locally made gourmet ice cream from Scottish Highland Creamery of Oxford and Chesapeake Bay Farms of Pocomoke City all year round.
