C-SDHS awards from left: Kathy Hanna, CMS Scholarship committee member; Steffi Webster, Micah Slacum and Ivan Zorn, CMS Scholarship chair.[/caption] CAMBRIDGE – Chris Markin, president of the Cambridge Multi-Sport (CMS) Triathlon Group, in Cambridge, recently announced that the scholarship committee has presented awards to four Dorchester County students, graduating seniors from North Dorchester High School and Cambridge-South Dorchester High School. “We are extremely excited to find young scholar athletes who are so committed to their community and their sport and honored to have these students in our schools. We look forward to following their accomplishments at the collegiate level,” said Mr. Markin. The CMS award recipients were selected from applicants who met a GPA requirement and had participated in Cross Country, Swimming, or Track based on an essay question on “how participation in one or more of the triathlon disciplines has positively affected your life and direction” and a short answer regarding their community service or volunteerism experiences. Two scholarship recipients were selected from each school and awarded $1,000 and $500. The 2018 CMS Scholarship award winners for Cambridge-South Dorchester High School are: • MICAH SLACUM: ($1,000) Micah will be attending Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Va. next fall and plans to become a Physical Therapist. Micah was on the swim team all four years and the cross-country team her junior and senior year. She served as a captain of the swim team her Junior and Senior year while also being selected as team MVP both years. She also holds the C-SD team record for 100-yard breaststroke. Micah has volunteered over the years as a youth lacrosse and swimming coach. • STEFFI WEBSTER: ($500) Steffi will be attending McDaniel College in Westminster, next fall and plans to become a Dentist. Steffi was on the swim team all four years of high school and hopes to continue swimming in college by participating in club sports. Steffi volunteered at “Free Dentistry for Veterans” this past November, an event that provided 75 veterans with free dental care. The 2018 CMS Scholarship award winners for North Dorchester High School are: • DEVON TYLER: ($1,000) Devon will be attending Towson University in Towson, and plans to study Business, major in Economics, and eventually start his own company. Devon was on the Track team his junior and senior year and ran the 400m. He has volunteered at Eagleman and Ironman Maryland the past 4 years at a Bike aid station with his soccer team. • KALIFA WARREN: ($500) Kalifa will be attending Towson University in Towson, and plans to study Nursing and become a Nurse Practitioner. Kalifa was on the Track team all four years of high school, and her event was hurdles. She has volunteered at her high school’s blood drive ever since she was old enough to give blood by being a donor as well as a volunteer. Cambridge Multi-Sport is a triathlon group located in Cambridge. The members span a wide range of interests centered on swimming, biking and running, including triathlons and are represented by a diverse group of individuals from beginners to seasoned triathletes and everything in between.
