Triathlon participants and CMS members posed with their finisher medals at last year’s July 4 event.[/caption] CAMBRIDGE – Local triathlon group, Cambridge Multi-Sport (CMS), and event sponsors Tomey Electric and TCR Event Management, will host the 7th Annual “Firecracker Kid’s Triathlon” on July 4 at 8 a.m. at the Dorchester County Family YMCA. Children ages 5-15 are encouraged to participate, with five age classes and distances for the swim, bike and run. Registered participants can bring any type of bike they wish, however, helmets are required. Children will also have the option of using a flotation device during the pool swim. Lifeguards, city police, sheriff’s deputies and CMS members will be prominently stationed and monitoring pool and bike safety and vehicle traffic along the neighborhood course. Parents, grandparents and community members are encouraged to attend this USA Triathlon-sanctioned event to watch budding triathletes swim 25-200 yards (based on age group), bike two miles and run one-half to one mile to the finish line. The registration fee is $30 per participant and all profits from this event will be earmarked for our CMS collegiate Scholarships benefiting North Dorchester and Cambridge-South Dorchester High School’s graduating seniors.
