CAMBRIDGE — The city government is working to put together 1,000 care packages to benefit some of Cambridge’s less fortunate citizens. The packages would go to households currently receiving assistance from area food banks.

“The hope is that each care package will have face coverings, hygiene items and cleaning supplies,” a letter from Commission La’Shon Foster said.
Included in the project are the County Health Department, Dorchester County officials, emergency management and area non-profits and civic groups.

The Care & Share Fund contributed $1,000, and as of the writing of the letter, almost $2,000 had been collected altogether. “Also, local citizens have already crafted over 140 face coverings that will be distributed,” Ms. Foster wrote.

As many packages will be distributed as funds will support, based on the total received by May 1. Contributions received after that date will go to local food banks.

City Commissioner and Board President Care & Share Fund, LLC Dave Cannon said, “When City Commissioner Foster mentioned this Care Bag in our April 13 Council meeting, my first thought was to present this idea to the Care & Share Board of Directors. I was very happy when they decided to make a donation to this community project. After all, Care & Share’s mission includes the health and wellbeing of our community.”

Mr. Cannon also works as the advertising manager for the Dorchester Banner.
