Christ Church to feature Parrotta concert

CAMBRIDGE – The Christ Church Cambridge Concert Series will present Justus (Jay) Parrotta, organist, at Christ Episcopal Church on Sunday, at 4 p.m. Jay will perform works by Bach, Mendelssohn, Widor, Jimenez, and his own Suite. Mr. Parrotta will play on the 28 rank Casavant pipe organ. Jay was Choir Director/ Organist at Christ Church from 2010-2013.

Jay Parrotta is a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists, the highest level of certification granted by the AGO. He has received awards and scholarships for his keyboard skills from the Delaware, District of Columbia, and Northern Virginia Chapters of the AGO; National Federation of Music Clubs; National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts; and West Chester University.

Mr. Parrotta has performed recitals at such venues as the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America, National City Christian Church, St. Luke’s Catholic Church in McLean, Virginia, and The Washington National Cathedral. He possesses a varied and extensive music background holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Organ Performance, magna cum laude, a Master’s Degree in Music Composition with a concentration in Concert Music, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Composition from Catholic University of America’s Benjamin T. Rome School of Music.

As a composer he has received several commissions, and his works consist of music for solo instruments, voice, choir, congregation, chamber ensemble, orchestra, opera, dance, electronics, and film including the critically acclaimed documentary Dakota 38. His music has been heard in Antarctica, Australia, France, Russia, Sweden, Zambia, and throughout North America.

He serves as Organist and Music Director at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Woodley Park, Washington D.C., and Organist at Immaculate Conception Church, Shaw-Mount Vernon, Washington. D.C.

Christ Church is located on the corner of Church and High streets in Cambridge. Parking is behind the church. There will be a reception after the concert. Tickets are $10 at the door. For information call Robin at the church at 410-228-3161.
