Holly Edwards, Choptank Elementary School’s physical education and health teacher, has been recognized by the Maryland Chapter of the Society of Health and Physical Education with a 2021 Simon A. McNeely Award.
Ms. Edwards will be honored at a virtual SHAPE Maryland event to be held Saturday, Nov. 13. This is the second year in a row that a Dorchester County Public Schools teacher has received the award.
The Simon A. McNeely Award is presented to educators with at least five years professional experience for “outstanding teaching and service in health and education.”
Ms. Edwards is in her 10th year of teaching, seven of them at Choptank Elementary. She holds degrees from Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, and Salisbury University.
Ms. Edwards said of the award, “It means a lot to be recognized in my efforts to make a positive influence on the children of Dorchester County.”
Dr. Paula Turner, supervisor of Science, Health, Physical Education and STEM for Dorchester County Public Schools, said, “It was an honor not only to nominate Mrs. Holly Edwards for this prestigious award but to also hear that Mrs. Edwards is now a Simon McNeely Award winner for the state of Maryland.”
