Childhood hunger affects many in county
Food is collected for hungry children in Dorchester County.
CAMBRIDGE — This is Childhood Hunger Awareness Week, the local volunteer group Meals til Monday announced. The organization collects and distributes bags of nutritious food to many students in Dorchester County.
“There are over 1,000 food-insecure children in Dorchester County Public Schools,” a statement from the group said. “Meals til Monday helps nearly half of those children through our weekend backpack program (Meals til Monday) and our nightly program (Meals til Morning).”
It costs nearly $6 per child for each weekend bag of food. “Please donate today,” the statement said.
