Charles Harbaugh Wells, of Crisfield, died Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional.
Born in Crisfield on September 20, 1932, he was a son of the late Howard B. Wells and Kathryn Harbaugh Wells.
"Wellsie", as he was affectionately known, was a graduate of Crisfield High School class of 1952 and was a US Army Korean War veteran. He was plating supervisor at the former Carvel Hall Cutlery retiring after 38 ½ years.
He was very active in his community and was well-known among local sports enthusiasts. He was member and Past Commander of the Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion, member of the former VFW Post #8274, active in the former Crisfield Softball League, and was active for 40 years in the Crisfield Little League serving in many capacities including Umpire, Manager and Board of Directors. He is also the namesake of the Crisfield Little League field as they named the field the "Charles Wells Little League Field" in his honor.
"Wellsie" was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Delmarva Shorebirds, and LA Dodgers. He attended games religiously and was so happy to be able to attend the last home game of the Shorebirds on the Sunday before his passing away. He never met a stranger and he met many friends and acquaintances along the way. The family wishes to thank all of his many special friends that have gone the extra mile for him over the years.
He is survived by his sister, Lula Anne Taylor of Parsonsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Ellen Lewis, Henry George "Skippy" Wells, Howard B. Wells, Jr., Robert H. Sterling, and Virginia M. Sterling.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Stephen S. Willing were Monday, September 18, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home where a viewing was one hour prior. Interment with military honors followed in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Crisfield Little League Organization, 4750 Jacksonville Road, Crisfield, MD 21817.
