EASTON – Character Counts Mid Shore (CCMS) awarded three A. James Clark Character Counts Citizenship Scholarships to recent high school graduates in Talbot, Caroline and Dorchester counties.

Brendan P. Wazniak of Easton High School has been volunteering at Pickering Creek Audubon Center for three years as a summer camp junior counselor, is active in his church, is currently working on his Eagle Project for the Boy Scouts of America, has participated in many service projects with the Easton High School National Honor Society and has been an attorney and judge for Talbot County Teen Court. Brendan is attending the University of Maryland College Park with a major in Chemistry.

Zachary E. Bee, a senior at Colonel Richardson High School, has a long history of volunteer efforts such as the annual Polar Bear Plunge, blanket drives for children in Al DuPont Children’s Hospital, pet supply drives, literacy night at a local preschool, serving dinners at his church as well as lending his landscaping talents to local churches and playgrounds. He recently volunteered at the Character Counts Six Pillars Century annual fund raising cycling event. Zach will further his education of the University of Maryland College Park studying business.

Matthew J. King of Cambridge-South Dorchester High School has been involved with Character Counts since he was in middle school. Matt has also served as a reader for area elementary schools and has been active in Wyldlife and YoungLife Clubs. This past year, Matt has been an intern at WHCP Radio 101.5 FM in Cambridge and is heading to High Point University to study Communications.

“Character Counts Mid Shore is extremely honored to award the A. James Clark Scholarships in memory of Mr. Clark, a CCMS Founding Board Member. Mr. Clark was a generous gentleman and was known for his outstanding community service. It is for this reason that Character Counts Mid Shore offers this scholarship based on volunteer efforts,” states Susan Luby, executive director.
