Centennial Celebration for St. Luke UMC

CAMBRIDGE — A Centennial Church Celebration has been planned for St. Luke UM Chuch for Sunday in honor of St. Luke UM Church serving the community for 100 years.

The Rev. Dr. Shirlyn Henry Brown, Easton District superintendent will be delivering the 11:30 a.m. Homecoming message, accompanied by the Charge Men’s Choir.

The Rev. Elmer N. Davis, pastor of Whatcoat UM Church in Dover, Del. will be the 4 p.m. speaker. He will be accompanied by his choir and congregation.

The Rev. Jerome T. Tilghman Sr. is host pastor and the public is invited.

The Rev. Dr. Shirlyn Henry Brown is an ordained elder and the Easton District Superintendent (consisting of 124 churches) of the Peninsula Delaware Conference of The United Methodist Church. “Pastor B” as she is known serves as the DSU Theatre Coordinator and advisor to the DSU Theatre Honor Society and Drama Club.

She is from Odessa, Del. and raised in Dover. She completed her bachelors and masters degrees in theatre at Kansas State University. Accepting her call to ministry in the Peninsula-Delaware Conference at Lee Haven United Methodist Church and Whatcoat United Methodist Church Pastor B received her masters of divinity from Palmer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania in 2005 and her doctorate of ministry at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC in 2011.

The Rev. Elmer Neal Davis Jr. is the son of the late Elmer Neal Davis Sr. and Julia Diane Davis. Born in Salisbury he received his education in Wicomico Public School System where he graduated from James M. Bennett Senior High School. He went on to pursue higher education at Wor-Wic Community College where he received his associates of arts degree in criminal justice. From there he attended the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Police Academy in Salisbury.

His training enabled him to serve his community for 22 years as a Police Officer thus being promoted through the ranks to the position of Lieutenant at the Salisbury City Police Department.

Rev. Davis served as a lay speaker, president of the United Methodist Men, trustee and usher boards at Mt. Nebo UM Church in Columbia, Del. Rev. Davis was appointed in 1998 as Senior Pastor of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. He graduated with honors receiving a bachelor’s of science degree in human resources management from Wilmington College and masters of divinity at Howard University School of Divinity. June 2011 at the United Methodist Annual Conference he was ordained Elder in full connection. July 1, 2011, Rev. Davis was appointed to St. James UM in Westover and Trinity UM Church in Mt. Vernon. July 1, 2014, Pastor Davis was assigned as the Senior Pastor of Whatcoat United Methodist Church, Dover, Del.

He is a husband of 24 years to First Lady Tyronna A. Davis and their two children Cameron E’mar Davis (28) and Eshyra Neale Davis (18). Rev. Davis and Tyronna are the grandparents of Kamaryn J. Davis, 7,  and Zion Davis, 1 month old.
