FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Cecil Camper passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 at the Broward General Medical Center.

He was the son of Myra Camper and Isaac Jones, born on Sept. 21, 1928 in Vienna. When he was 3, Myra Camper was married to Robert Stanley, who reared Cecil in a Christian home.

He attended the public schools of Dorchester County and graduated from Frederick Douglas St. Clair High School in 1945.

In 1952 Cecil was married to Alice Ricketts of Federalsburg. They resided in Thompsontown until 1958 when they moved to Florida. From this union were born Jeremiah, Cedrick, Ashley Camper and Brontia Camper Smart, who survive.

Cecil, twice returned to Dorchester County and resided in Thompsontown. In 1983 he was married to Linda Fuller, who also survives. He joined Thompson Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Board of Trustees and sang on the Men's Choir (now Faith Community UM Church). He later transferred his membership to St. John's United Methodist Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he remained until his death.

Cecil is also survived by a son, Carlton H. Camper and a daughter, Queen Esther Brown; five stepchildren; 35 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Stella Nance of North Carolina, Della Walker of Baltimore and Lillian Jackson of Cambridge; an aunt and uncle, Pensacola and William Sampson and a number of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Tilghman and two sisters, Annabelle Chester and Mary Jones.

A memorial service was held on Friday at Faith Community United Methodist Church in East New Market.

His funeral was held at St. John's UM Church in Fort Lauderdale. Burial was at Forest Lawn Central.
