HURLOCK, Md. - Catherine Sampson Jolley peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 26, 2013 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Del. Catherine was born in Thompson, Md. on July 30, 1926, the daughter of the late John and Edna Mae Sampson, and was raised by her stepmother, Addie Farrare Sampson. She was the eldest of five children. She was educated at F.D. St. Clair High School. She retired from Coldwater Seaford after working there for 20 years and also had worked at Caroline Poultry in Federalsburg for 20 years. Catherine was a jolly person as her last name states. She was always happy and joyful and willing to have a conversation with anyone that she met. She loved to travel and be around her family and friends. She was a lover of beautiful clothes and enjoyed going shopping anytime her daughters would ask her. She was a faithful member of Faith Community U.M. Church in East New Market, Md. where she served as a communion steward and an usher for several years. She attended church services every Sunday and always had a soul stirring testimony to tell about how good the Lord has been to her. She especially enjoyed the "huggy" time to conversate with the other members of the Congregation. Catherine's faithful sister-in-law Essie Cephas would stop and pick her up every Sunday rain or shine. They were the Best of Friends for many years and would talk and share lots of joyful experiences together. Catherine was the loving wife of Louis Andrew Jolley, Sr. for 68 years; besides her husband, she leaved to mourn, five children, Gloria Jean Thompson of East New Market, Md., William H. Jolley of Los Angeles, Calif., Louis Andrew Jolley Jr., (Lanora) of Hurlock, Md., Loistine Jolley of Cambridge, Md., and Bernet Jones of Hurlock, Md.; she also leaves to cherish her memories 22 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, including one that was born on April 25, 2013; a brother, Wilbur Sampson of Hurlock, Md.; a sister, Corina Rhodes of Denver, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Martha Sampson of Hurlock, Md.; two aunts, Elizabeth Farrare of Vienna, Md., and Hilda White of Baltimore, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Purnell Sampson and Linwood Sampson; two sons-in-law, Carlton W. Jones, Sr., and Willie T. Sampson, Sr.; and a very faithful and special niece, Marie "Kitty" Hinton. A visitation will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Faith Community U.M. Church, East New Market. Funeral services to celebrate Catherine's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the church with the Rev. Beverly Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Arrangements by Framptom Funeral Home, PA., in Federalsburg.
