RIDGELY - Catherine Brady Wheeler, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, in Memorial Hospital in Easton. She was 87. Born on Aug. 13, 1921 in Baltimore, Mrs. Wheeler was the daughter of the late John and Rachael Raynor. Mrs. Wheeler and her first husband, Hampton Roland Brady Sr. had a tobacco farm in Lothian, for 38 years, where she raised her six children. Mr. Brady passed away July 1977. In 1979, she moved to Baltimore with her second husband, James H. Wheeler Sr., where she enjoyed her days at the Roland Terrace Democratic Club playing Bingo and attending other engagements. She then moved to Ridgely with her daughter, Pixie, in 2002 after Mr. Wheeler had passed away. There she spent her time crocheting many baby blankets for her family and friends, bingo at the VFW in Greensboro, and being with her many family members. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Raynor Jr., and Francis Raynor; and her grandson, Alan Gavrilenkowsky. Mrs. Wheeler is survived by four daughters, Catherine Griffith and her husband Will, of Denton, Judith Gavrilenkowsky and her husband Walter, of Harrington, Del., Carol Bell and her husband Tom, of Chester, and Pixie Sappington and her husband Tom, of Ridgely; two sons, H. Roland Brady Jr., of Saxis, Va., and Joel W. Brady Sr., of Ridgely; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Emma Hayden, of Wingate, Mary B. Wagner, Holly Meredith, Sarah Coleman, and Nivlys Kitzig, all of Virginia; six brothers, Thomas Raynor, of Gen Burnie, Robert Raynor, of Glen Arm, Charles Raynor, of W.V., Chuckie Raynor, of California, Timothy Raynor, of Va., and Frank Gutierrez, of Fla.; her stepmother, Nivlys Raynor, of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24 at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton. The burial will follow in Christ Episcopal Cemetery in Owensville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ridgely Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 425, Ridgely, MD 21660; or to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.
