VIENNA — On Oct. 1 at 5:30 p.m. you would have found over 200 in attendance at the 2nd Annual Dress for Life event hosted at Layton’s Chance Winery. This event allows survivors of various cancers to bring awareness of the fight and the journey of winning the battle. Each of the survivors wore various attire from LuLaRoe with Renee Groves and Calista Boutique with Amy Betts.

Not only were they dressed for the fashion show, but were given an amazing pampering with hair from Bombshell Salon with Kim Harrison and Erika, and makeup finishing touches from Mary Kay with Emily Stone and her team.

As they gathered together you could hear the love in each of them through their stories and their fights as they connected with others in their very own community who had walked in their shoes.

As the fashion show event doors opened the air was filled with music by Chuckie Hayward; pictures were being snapped by Robin Wilkenson Photography; an abundance of wine tastings were taking place, along with food tastings provided by Old Salty’s with Jay Newcomb.

As the weather and the evening gave way to a beautiful sunset, the event set into full swing. Emcee, Matt Spence, brought each survivor to the stage and gave them their moment of glory. Some smiled, other’s laughed, while others even danced in their moment. A picture perfect night! This year the models were surprised with the gift of their attire through monetary donations within our community.

The models ended their walk along the stage, while yet another little beauty made her appearance to remind everyone that cancer stops at nothing, no one, size, color, or age. Little Ireland Vega, 18 months of age, released pink balloons of hope as everyone gathered in the circle of HOPE with lite candles. Everyone focused on the moment as the air was filled with praise as Melissa Slacum sang out in beauty.

We truly live in a community that cares, loves, and supports. From those baking and donating the profits, those putting in purple hair extensions and donating each dollar, those who wrote checks, donated door prizes and gave of themselves. Those who worked behind the scene because they’ve been in the fight against cancer themselves, and to those who came and supported the cause.

Dorchester Relay for Life is blessed through this event as each dollar that is cleared will be given to the organization. Again, thanks to all from the Dress for Life team!
