Athletes and coaches of the Cambridge-South Dorchester 2020 Swim Team are seen at Regional Championships.

ANNAPOLIS — Coaches and athletes of the Cambridge-South Dorchester High School 2020 Swim Team celebrated another season of competition and friendship at the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association 3A/2A/1A East Regional Championships on Saturday.

Viking men placed sixth of nine teams. The women earned the fifth spot of 10.

But as is so often the case, points and places don’t tell the full story. It’s the relationships and growth, work and fun, success and even failure that forge bonds long to be remembered.

“I can’t say enough about this group,” Coach Kathryn Adams wrote online. “All of the fast swimming, hard work, stupid jokes, PRs, toothy smiles, surprised faces, and wet hugs that happened during this crazy season made all the stress worth it. I’m so blessed to be able to work with these amazing people. They make me so happy.”

Team member Kathryn Collison wrote to Coach Adams, saying, “Thank you for being such a great inspiration!”

Ms. Adams shares coaching duties with Herve Hamon.

Tony Thomas, father of team member Luci, told Coach Adams, “Thank you for pushing our kids to be better swimmers and better people!”

Katie Doll, mother of team member Dylan, wrote, “Thank you for all you do to encourage and push our kids to be the best they can be.”

The next and final step in this season will be the State Championships.
The boys’ 200 Medley relay and 200 freestyle relay have qualified for states, as well as John Henry in the 100 fly. The girls 200 free relay has qualified, and their medley relay is first alternate. Kathryn Collison is first alternate in the girls’ 200 free.

The championship will take place at University of Maryland College Park’s Eppley Recreation Center on Feb. 22, beginning at 4 p.m.
