CAMBRIDGE — Cambridge-South Dorchester High School bocce players opened a new turf court at the school last week, thanks to a team effort.

Led by a commitment to Unified Sports and Special Olympics, the court is the result of a fundraising effort by Principal Dave Bromwell and Coach Jake Coleman. Community members Jim Crain and Joe Morris built and leveled the foundation for the court and Coaches Coleman and Catron installed the field turf. Coach Kareem Otey donated new shirts for the team to wear for their meets.

Unified bocce state and regional meets are played on a turf surface and since the new C-SDHS court is one of few at a Maryland school, it is already proving popular.

“Schools are calling left and right to schedule meets against us to play on the turf,” said Athletic Director Dan Dobronz. The team already has six meets scheduled.
